BREEAM Standards
Subscription to the BREEAM Points System, as a framework for analysis and scoring, allows easy comparisons to be made between the relative merits of differing construction types as well as comparisons within construction product groups.
The system promotes the use of materials with a proven sustainable message and allows the designer to differentiate between those products with true ecological credentials and those not achieving the benchmark.
Indicative ratings for building materials given in the BRE Green Guide to Specification also allows designers to choose those products or construction methods that will be most beneficial in contributing to a high BREEAM points score.
Derbigum high performance waterproofing membrane and Hydrotech Hot Melt liquid structural waterproofing contribute to a very good generic rating in the Green Guide to Specification dependent on the roof construction into which they are incorporated. This can range from an ‘A+' rated cold roof construction on timber and metal decks through to a ‘C' rated build up incorporating concrete. The choice of substrate will greatly influence the final construction rating with most warm roof constructions achieving a ‘A'. However, Derbigum in its own right would score highly as a responsibly sourced and manufactured product when assessing construction materials as a whole. Insulations used as standard in Derbigum roof build ups, carry an ‘A' summary rating with a Zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and a Global warming Potential (GWP) of less than 5. This will contribute 1 credit as part of a BREEAM assessment. Further BREEAM credits would also be available for the use of responsibly sourced Derbigum material and for its use as part of an Alumasc ZinCo green roof construction.
The BREEAM system also credits highly those products contributing to the wider sustainability of a project in areas such as energy conservation, water reuse and increased biodiversity.
